Niemes and Prachatitz local history museum
The local history museum “Niemes und Prachatitz” is located in the historical center of Ingolstadt in the “Pedellhaus” in Hohe-Schul-Straße. The ‘Hohe Schule’ was the first Bavarian state university, founded in 1472. The caretaker of the university was known as the ‘Pedell’. The house, which had fallen into disrepair in the post-war period, was exquisitely renovated by the city of Ingolstadt and made available to displaced people from the northern Bohemian town of Niemes/Mimoň and from Prachatitz/Prachatice in the Bohemian Forest.
Many displaced people from both towns came to Ingolstadt after 1945, where they organized themselves into homeland groups and associations and eventually created a joint museum. In addition to an exhibition on the historical development of Bohemia and numerous exhibits, a library and a fully digitized photo archive are available for research purposes. In 2020, a collection about the town of Kašperské Hory/Bergreichenstein and its surroundings was taken over and integrated into the permanent exhibition.
The museum offers individual assistance and is a treasure trove for family researchers.
