The Bishop Neumann Chapel

In 1980, a chapel was built on the Dreisesselberg in the Bavarian Forest in memory of St. Bishop Johann Nepomuk Neumann. The saint was born on March 28th, 1811 in Prachatitz in the Bohemian Forest, emigrated to the USA in 1836 and was consecrated Bishop of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1852. During his time in office, over 100 churches and almost as many schools were built in his diocese, a seminary was founded and construction began on the cathedral in Philadelphia, in which he is also buried. In 1977, he was canonized by Pope Paul VI.

The Bishop Neumann Chapel is located on the popular Dreisesselberg excursion destination near the summit of the Hochstein. The chapel is available for baptisms, weddings, devotions and masses. It can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the Dreisessel parking lot.
