The Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest today
In the years of rapprochement and growing closeness, political, economic and cultural relations between the Czech Republic and its neighboring countries have improved significantly. The natural landscape on the border, untouched for decades, now forms the Green Roof of Europe, the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe.
In the Bavarian Forest National Park and the Czech Šumava National Park (Bohemian Forest) you can enjoy nature while hiking, cycling and taking part in many winter sports, while the neighboring regions also offer a wide range of leisure activities and cultural attractions.
At a local level, cross-border cooperation is diverse: joint projects, exhibitions and school partnerships bring people together again. Knowledge of the centuries-long shared past with all its ups and downs is an important topic for everyone to be able to find common ground.
The three-country region offers nature and culture, leisure and sport as well as plenty of encounters at numerous events and festivals. Whether in Bavaria, the Czech Republic, the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria or the Waldviertel in Lower Austria – the Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest are always worth a trip!
